A MasterChef in the Making!
Congratulations to apprentice chef Jacob Hobbs, winner of the Graham Scholarship.
The aim of this prestigious scholarship is to nurture young and aspiring apprentice chefs. It is a partnership between TAFE NSW and the Hunter Culinary Association, and is named after TAFE NSW alumnus Brett Graham, who is now an award-winning chef in London. The three finalists had to create and prepare a menu based on ingredients selected by Graham, while also managing a team of kitchen staff (made up of other apprentices). Seventeen year old Jacob, who is an apprentice at the Muse Restaurant in Pokolbin, beat some tough competition to win the scholarship. He will now travel to London to learn from Brett Graham at his Michelin-starred restaurant, The Ledbury. The scholarship also provides funding for Jacob to enrol in the Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery at TAFE NSW, so he can continue his studies upon his return from his London work experience.
