Work Health and Safety Legislation

NSW has enacted the Work Health & Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) as part of a national agreement to provide consistency in health & safety law across all Australian jurisdictions. The WHS Act commenced on January 1, 2012.

Under the law a worker will include anyone who carries out work in a workplace such as: contractors, employees of a labour hire company, apprentices or trainees, students gaining work experience and volunteers as well as 'plain' employees.
